Harry Bright was the son of the eccentric artist Henry Barrnabus Bright who painted anthropomorphic bird frog subjects in the style of Cruikshank, Doyle and Griset. Born in Lambeth he was living at Vine Cottage, The Oval Kennington by 1871 and would have witnessed the early development of the area into a great cricket ground. Cricket was obviously a theme that attracted him; his watercolours of The English Eleven as a group of British songbirds and The Australian Eleven as a group of exotic parrots and parakeet are well know from prints. These subjects are most unusual in his oeuvre as he is far better known for his bird subjects.
