Born in Redhill, George Percy Jacomb-Hood was the son the engineer and director of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway. He was educated at Tonbridge School and won a scholarship to the Slade School of Art. He also studied in Paris under J. P.l Laurens. From 1877 he started to exhibit at the Royal Academy and continued to do so at many other venues including at the Paris Salon. He was one of the original members of the New English Art Club and also a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and Society of Portrait Painters. As an illustrator he worked for The Graphic, which sent him to Greece in 1896, to the Delhi for the Durbar of 1902, on the Indian Tour of the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1905 and on King George V’s tour of India in 1911. Works by him are in many British public collections.
