Captain, afterwards Admiral, Sir Henry Campbell, equerry to King George V

Henry William Banks Davis was born in Finchley, the son of a barrister. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools and was known for his landscapes and paintings of cattle and horses. His early work was influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites but is style later became broader. Many of his landscapes were painted in Wales or Scotland but he also painted in Northern France, having a house in Boulogne. He exhibited at all the major exhibitions, becoming ARA in 1873 and RA in 1877. He died in Rhayader, Radnorshire. Works by him are in many public collections. Admiral Sir Henry Hervey Campbell (1865-1933) was a Royal Navy officer and Aide-de-Camp to King George V. He became a Captain in June 1902 and in the same year was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order. In September 1912 he was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral and was appointed to the Admiralty on Special Services. In July he became Rear-Admiral of the Home Fleet and advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on retirement.
