Gilbert Spencer
1892 - 1979
United Kingdom Born in Cookham, Gilbert Spencer was the younger brother of the painter Sir Stanley Spencer. He studied at Camberwell School of Art, the Royal College of Art and at the Slade. After served during the Great War he held his first one-man show at the Goupil Gallery in 1923 and became a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club and elsewhere. A retrospective exhibition of his work was held Reading in 1964 and the Tate Gallery and many other public collection hold examples of his work.
