In 1910 he moved to London to work full time as an illustrator. During World War I he joined the Artists’ Rifles and saw service in France. Returning to London at the end of the war he resumed his illustrative career, working for publications such as The Champion and Boy’s Own Paper. He also became a prolific book illustrator, specialising in dogs and horses.
