Pamela Spencer was the niece of Sir Stanley Spencer RA and Gilbert Spencer RA. Born in Manchester, her father Percy Spencer was the older brother of the two artists and looked after much of their financial arrangements. Pamela served in the Women’s Land Army from 1943-45 and studied at the St Martin’s School of Art, 1945-51. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club, Society of Women Artists and elsewhere. She was particularly close to Gilbert Spencer and his influence can be seen in her work. She lived in Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire.
