Provenance: The artist’s studio sale.
Marion Elizabeth Furniss (known as May) was born in Epsom, Surrey and studied at the Slade School of Art where she met William Shackleton. They were married in 1915. She exhibited at the Royal Academy and elsewhere from 1900 and during the 1920s and 1930s taught privately.
