Anthony Gilbert trained at Goldsmith’s College and in 1943 joined the famous advertising agency J. Walter Thompson where he was to stay for the next 25 years. He worked on many of their major advertising campaigns including those for Rowntree’s, Horlick’s, Rose’s Lime Juice and perhaps most famously for After Eight mints for whom he designed the iconic rococo clock. Whilst at J. Walter Thompson he also painted is own work and took private commissions, including work for London Transport, House and Garden and most importantly stunning and stylish fashion illustrations for Vogue.
