Woolway was a London based portrait, figure and landscape painter and teacher, being principal of St Martin’s School of Art, 1928-43. He lived in Battersea and later in Kensington and exhibited a number of works at the Royal Academy and elsewhere. This painting was the artist’s contribution to The Artists’ War Fund.
