Alfred Kingsley Lawrence as born in Southover, Lewes. He studied at King Edward VII School of Art, Newcastle upon Tyne under Richard Hatton, at the Royal College of Art under William Rothenstein and, as a Prix de Rome winner in 1923, at the British School in Rome. A figurative and portrait painter, he lived in London and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He became a Royal Academician in 1938. Works by him are in the National Portrait Galleries in London and Edinburgh and his murals are in the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle; the Palace of Westminster; the Bank of England and elsewhere. Portraits by him are in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, National Trust, Scottish National Portrait Gallery and in many other public collections. Condition: Diagonal horizontal fold mark visible lower quarter. Otherwise good.
