Pilcher was born in Boston Lincolnshire. He exhibited marines and town view at the Royal Academy and New English Art Club. The present watercolour shows the pre-World War II church which stood at the junction of Old Church Street and Cheyne Walk. On the night of 16-17 April 1941 the church was virtually totally destroyed by enemy bombing. The church was rebuilt and eventually to the same design and finally reconsecrated in 1958. In front of the church we see the Coalbrookdale lampstand of 1874 which still stands.
