A Breezy Day

Ingram was born in Twickenham, the son of a Scottish churchman. After a time as a pupil of the artists John Steeple and Augustus Walford Weedon he set up a studio in Chelsea and became a close friends with the Whistler, Mortimer Menpes and George Percy Jacomb-Hood. He travelled widely, including to Australia and was to be founder and President of the Anglo-Australian Society and also President of the Royal British Colonial Society of Artists. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, New Watercolour Society, Fine Art Society, Dowdeswells and elsewhere. In 1882 he moved to Falmouth and was very much associated with the Newlyn School and painting for many West Country marine subjects in both oil and watercolour. In 1894 Ingram and two good friends, Jack Downing and Henry Scott Tuke established the Falmouth Art Gallery. Works by him are in the collections of the National Galleries in New South Wales and South Australia and in several British public collections.
