Susan Ryder is a noted interior and portrait painter. She studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art where her tutor, Bernard Dunstan, introduced to the work of the post-impressionist Edouard Vuillard, whose interior and garden subjects were to be a great influence on her own work. She first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1964, aged only 19. In 1981 she was commissioned by the Prince of Wales to paint Diana, Princess of Wales in her wedding dress and in 1997 she was commissioned to paint HM The Queen for the Royal Automobile Club. She holds regular solo exhibitions in London as well as regularly showing at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club and Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
