Seascape
Seascape
Hering was the younger son of a German father. He was initial a clerk in a bank but decided to take up art, studying at Munich. He travelled widely in Italy and the Adriatic, including tours of Hungary and Tranyslvania. His illustrations from the tour were published in Sketches on the Danube, in Hungary and Transilvania in 1838. He settled in London where he practised as a landscape painter, paying frequent visited to Italy. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and British Institution. His paintings of Amalfi and Capri were purchased by the Prince Consort and are now in the Royal Collection. He is represented in many public collections.
