Goth was born in Szeged, Hungary and studied at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts. He moved to Berlin to study further and set himself up as a portrait painter. In the 1935 he emigrated to England and established himself as a society portrait painter, his sitters included Lady Eden and Mrs Quentin Hogg. Through is friendship with film director Alexander Korda he came into contact with many of the stars of the British film industry, painting Ralph Richardson, Michael Wilding, Ann Todd, Margaret Leighton and others.
