William Edwin Tindall was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire. He studied at Scarborough School of Art before spending a period in Paris in the studio of Louis Timmermans. He taught art in Leeds and Doncaster and was Secretary and later Vice-President of the Yorkshire Union of Artists. He settled in Boston-Spar near Wetherby.
