Frank Markham Skipworth was born in Castor, Lincolnshire. He initially studied at Lincoln School of Art, then at the Royal Academy Schools under Sir Edward Poynter and then became a pupil of Adolphe William Bouguereau in Paris. On his return to England he lived in Chelsea and was a regular exhibitor of portraits and genre paintings at the Royal Academy and elsewhere.
