From a folio of drawings by George Price Boyce, Henry Tanworth Wells and other members of the Wells family.
Augusta was the youngest sister of the portrait painter Henry Tanworth Wells. In 1857 he had married Joanna Boyce, sister of Pre-Raphaelite landscape watercolourist George Price Boyce. Through this connection Augusta and Henry became close to other members of the Pre-Raphaelite circle and it was on the advice and encouragement of Joanna that Augusta decided to study art at the South Kensington School of Art in the mid 1850s. After the tragically early death of her Joanna in 1861 Augusta lived with her widowed brother and helped with the care of his two small children. She remained with Henry until her death in 1893. Augusta exhibited nine works at the Royal Academy and her 1875 sketch book is in the collection of the British Museum.
