Harcourt Dennis Mallet was born in Wallington, Surrey and educated at Tonbridge School before studying at Goldsmiths’ College. He published his first cartoon in Novel magazine in 1930 and soon became a regular contributor to numerous periodicals, especially Punch and Tatler. During World War II he served in the RAF, returning to his illustration work after the war contributing to many comics published by the Hulton Press including All Girl Comics and Eagle. Mallet also designing a great number of postcards and greetings cards.
