Glasgow School of Art Student
Glasgow School of Art Student
Born in Anstruther, Franc Martin studied at the Glasgow School of Art under David Forrester Wilson, 1919-20. A painter of genre subjects and landscapes in oil and watercolour, he exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute, Royal Scottish Academy and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. For a time he worked as a telegraphist and as a result of this was commissioned to produce a number of posters for the Post Office. He was President of the Glasgow Art Club and Secretary of the Royal Glasgow Institute. This portrait shows William Breslin, a fellow student at Glasgow School of Art and was executed during a lesson at the art school under the supervision of David Forrester Wilson.
