Harvest Field
Harvest Field
Born in Rochdale, Stott studied in Paris under Carolus-Duran and at the Ecole des Beaux Arts under Cabanel, where he was a contemporary of Philip Wilson Steer. Along with Clausen and La Thangue, he was influenced by the plein air painting of Bastien-Lepage and Millet and chose landscapes and rustic peasant life for his subjects. On returning to England, he initially lived in Evesham, Worcestershire but in 1889 he settled in Amberley, Sussex and the rural village and surrounding countryside of the South Downs provided most of his inspiration.
