During the 1980s The Festival of India, promoting the sub Continent’s textiles and crafts, travelled the world. This, and Rhodes earlier visit to India in 1981, inspired the design and production of her Indian Saree Designer Collection. It was premiered in Mumbai and Delhi in December 1987 making Rhodes the first Western designer to premiere a collection in India. The collection was shown again in London in July 1988 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of India’s independence.
