Roland Vivian Pitchforth

United Kingdom Born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, he studied at Wakefield School of Art, Leeds College of Art and the Royal College of Art. His first one-man show was held at the London Artists' Association in 1928 and the following year held his first of many exhibitions with the Leicester Galleries. He was an Official War Artist during World War II. Pitchforth began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1941 and was elected a member in 1953. He taught at Chelsea Polytechnic, Camberwell, St Martin's School of Art, Clapham and the Royal College of Art. Examples of his work at the collections of the Tate Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum and in many other public collections in this country and abroad. He lived in London.
