Anna Airy

1882 - 1964

Anna Airy was born in London and studied at the Slade under Henry Tonks, Fred Brown and Philip Wilson Steer winning the Melville Nettleship Prize several times, the Slade Scholarship and many other prizes. She first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1905 and also showed at the Fine Art Society, Carfax Gallery and elsewhere.

During World War I she completed pictures in munitions factories for the Imperial War Museum. Her works are also in the Victoria Albert Museum, and many other galleries in this country and abroad. A retrospective exhibition was held at Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich in 1985.
