The Snow Queen
The Snow Queen
Primrose Harley produced a few illustrations in the early 1930s. The present work was intended as an illustration for the Hans Christian Andersen story. From a wealthy family, she was born in London and brought up at her family home at Walton Hall, near Bletchley, Buckinghamshire. In 1936 she married Lt. Col. John Alfred Codrington. They were divorced in 1942. Her second marriage was to the American garden designer Lanning Roper. Together they developed one of the most famous gardens of its day at their home at Park House, Onslow Square, South Kensington. Works by her are in the collection of the National Trust at Scotney Castle, Kent.
