Percy Lancaster was born in Manchester in 1878. He studied architecture before taking up painting, studying at the Southport and Manchester Schools of Art. An accomplished painter in both oil and watercolour and a fine etcher he was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1910, a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1914 and a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1921. He exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy and Fine Art Society.
