Thomas Matthews Rooke

1842 - 1942

United Kingdom Rooke studied at the Royal College of Art and Royal Academy Schools. Aged 29 he became a designer in William Morris's firm and was appointed assistant to Burn-Jones. In 1878 Ruskin sent him to the Continent to make drawings for his project of recording cathedrals and ancient buildings. Many of these drawings are now in the collections of the Ruskin Museum, Sheffield and Birmingham Art Gallery.
