Robert Charles Goff

1837 - 1922

Goff was born in Ireland and entered the army just before his 18th birthday. While progressing to become a Colonel in the Coldstream Guards he also learned etching from a fellow officer. He retired from the army in 1878 and concentrated on his work as an artist, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1887. He lived in London and Brighton but travelled extensively, moving to Florence in the 1890s. He exhibited extensively in London and works by him are in many collections, including those of Brighton & Home Museum and Art Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
