Peter Folkes
1923 - 2019
Peter L. Folkes was born in Beaminster, Dorset and studied at the West of England College of Art, Bristol, his studies being interrupted by military service between 1942-1950 when he served in the Royal Corps of Signals in North Africa Sicily and Italy. He was Head of Art at King Edward VI School, Southampton and later a lecturer at Southampton College of Art. He became a member of the Royal West of England Academy in 1958 and a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1969, serving as Vice President in 1989. Folkes held many solo shows in London and the regions and his work is represented in several public collections.
