Leslie Worth

1923 - 2009

Leslie Worth was born in Bideford, Devon and studied first at Bideford and Plymouth Schools of Art before entering the Royal College of Art to study under Gilbert Spencer. During the World War II the students were evacuated to Ambleside in the Lake District and it was there that he developed his lifelong passion for landscape painting. Following the war, he spent a brief time in Norfolk where he worked as a graphic designer, before taking a teaching position at Epsom School of Art, eventually become Head of the Fine Art Department. He joined the Royal Society of British Artists, becoming its keeper and a trustee in 1987. He was an associate of the Royal Watercolour Society from 1958, and in 1992 became its president, a post he held for three years. He was also a member of the New English Art Club. He held a number of solo exhibitions at Agnews, London. His work appears in many major public and private collections.
