James Kerr

James spent his early years as a decorative painter working with many of London's leading interior designers. With his wonderful understanding of colour, paint and form he now devotes his energies to his passion for easel painting. In his strong and colourful still life and landscape paintings he freely acknowledges his inspiration from great 20th Century Modernists including such artists as Rothko, de Kooning, William Scott, Paul Feiler, Patrick Heron and Roger Hilton.

He starts his work with simple drawings of shapes and blocks of colour based on his subject. The painting then takes a journey into abstraction with vivid colours and strong impasto, scraping back and reworking until eventually the work is resolved.

James has held a number of very successful joint and solo exhibitions and sells in the UK and Worldwide.
