Henry Ryland
1856 - 1924
England Ryland was born in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. He was educated at South Kensington Art Schools, Heatherleys in Paris, where he was a pupil of Benjamin Constant, and the Académie Julian under Boulanger and Lefebvre. He was a designer of stained glass and a contributor to the English Illustrated Magazine.
Rylands' works were first exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery, and his watercolours (in the style of Alma-Tadema and Godward) were regularly shown at the Royal Academy, the New Gallery and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour.
