Vernon Beauvoir Ward was born in Hampstead, the son of an art dealer. His cousin was the artist John Stanton Ward, RA. He was educated at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic School, Highgate before studying at the Slade School of Art under Henry Tonks, Wilson Steer and Sir Walter Russell. Ward was a member of the New Society of Artists and an Associate member of the Royal Society of British Artists. He also exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. In addition to his exhibited work he was a successful commercial artist, reproductions of his work were often used on jigsaw puzzles, greetings cards and commercial prints. He painted a symbolic figure composition for the Free French during World War II and the Borough of Twickenham commissioned him to design a naval war memorial. He lived in Hampstead.
