Setelik was born in Tabor in the south of what is now the Czech Republic. He initially studied law in Prague but left his studies to take up art, studying first in Munich and then in Prague at the School of Arts and Academy of Fine Arts. He travelled in France and Italy but is best known for his paintings of the buildings and parks of Prague.
