Sophie Ryder was born in London and studied combined arts at the Royal Academy School 1981-84. Although best known for her large scale wire sculptures she also uses other materials and drawing, painting and printmake have always been a central part of her practice. Her work is populated by mystical creatures, the Hare and Minotour of Greek legend being frequent subjects. Her monumental sculptures are in many public collections.
