Archangel and the Crown of Thorns
Archangel and the Crown of Thorns
David O’Connell trained as a commercial artist. He served in the trenches during World War I and thereafter specialised in religious painting. A devote Catholic, he was appointed Artistic Advisor to St Richard’s Roman Catholic church in Chichester, West Sussex. For the church he designed and painted a series of the Stations of the Cross and the altarpiece of Archangels in the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. The present work is a study for one of the figures of the Archangels.
