Henry Lamb
1883 - 1960
England A portrait, figure and landscape painter and draughtsman, Henry Lamb was born in Australia and brought up in Manchester. Early in his life, Lamb studied medicine and in fact served as a medical officer in the First World War. He later used his experiences from this time as inspiration for several large paintings.
Soon after the war Lamb began taking up art, he began studying under Francis Dodd and Augustus John in London and Paris. He went on himself to become a founder-member of the Camden Town and London Groups, as well as an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1940. He exhibited at the Alpine Club Gallery; Carfax & Co. Gallery; Chenil and New Chenil Galleries; Grosvenor Gallery; Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Goupil Gallery; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Leicester Gallery; London Salon; Manchester City Art Gallery; New English Art Club; Royal Academy; Redfern Gallery; Royal Scottish Academy.
